Included is a blue/silver shield, extra hands, an alternate unmasked head, and a build-a-figure right leg part for the S.H.E.I.L.D. Mandroid. Priced at about $20 (Target, Amazon).

R308 Marvel Legends Infinite Series Captain America Marvel Now! Review

15 01 2014

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Infinite Series has released another great version of Captain America in his modern Marvel Now! design. Included is his trademark shield and build-a-figure part for a H.Y.D.R.A. Mandroid. Scaling at 6 inches tall, he’s highly poseable and very well sculpted. Priced at about $16 (Target, Toysrus).

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Hasbro Marvel Universe Captain America 2013

15 10 2013

Doesn’t take much for Hasbro to produce another Captain America. This new version sports a more tough guy looking head sculpt and slightly deeper blue. All-New character art by Mike Deodato is featured on the front of the card. priced at $9.99 (Target).

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Hasbro Avengers Assemble All-Star Series Captain America

13 08 2013

I first saw these a Toysrus for $9.99. Way too high for a 4″ action figure with not a lot of articulation (ball jointed head, swivel hips and shoulders). Next day, walked into Target and spotted them for only $5.99. The line includes Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. I picked up good ol’ Cap.

The sculpt is pretty good. The paint job is very sloppy. I grabbed the best one I could.

He comes with a generic shield. Pretty positive its a reused part from the movie series.

You can flip the clip for the shield inward to peg the shield into the back of the figure.

Definitely not a great figure so I really don’t recommend paying $9.99. For $5.99, you can pick up your favorite Avenger.

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Super Heroes a plenty :)

22 04 2013

Over the weekend, I found myself at the mall and wandered into the Disney Store. To my surprise, I spotted Marvel Select figures for $24 each. They apparently carry exclusive Avengers figures. Had to grab Captain America and Black Widow.

Cap comes with a special display stand and his trademark Shield. His face sculpt is very much based off art by John Cassaday, an artist who has drawn him in past comics.

Marvel Select Captain America

Black Widow has a very classic hairdo and beautiful face. Unfortunately she has a few problems. She’s isn’t black but in a metallic like purple spy suit. It’s a nice paint job but she hardly feels like the “Black Widow” with this paint scheme. Both her hands are molded with a gun gesture but she has no guns. Weird. Lastly, her hips are bit skinny for my taste and you lose that sexy look the Black Widow is know for having. You get a custom debris style base with some broken parts of Ultron and little Ant-Man figure.

Marvel Select Black Widow

Not to out due my Marvel findings, walked into my local Target and spotted a couple of Mattel DC Unlimited figures. First up is the New 52 design of Aquaman. His design is just awesome with good looking head sculpt, updated design and very size-able trident.

Got the Injustice (Regime) Superman. The figure has a very nice design but his articulation is very lacking. Feels like DC Direct figure. I really like how they pulled off the shoulder pads with the cape underneath. I used the custom base that came with the Marvel Select Captain America for special photo with Superman on top of it.

And if your wondering what he looks like next to the Injustice Batman here you go :)

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Marvel Legends (Hit Monkey Series) Ultimate Captain America

22 01 2013

Dropped by my local Target and spotted the next Marvel Legends (Hit Monkey Series) Action Figures. The only figure that tickled my fancy was the Ultimate Captain America action figure. He’s one of the figures in the line without a Hit Monkey build-a-figure part.

He has a brown combat vest that gives him a more equipped look. He rarely used a vest in the comics but its nice edition for the figure.

Ultimate Captain America Marvel Legends 2013 02

He’s not entirely accurate to his comic book design. He lacks gray paint apps under the shoulder joints like the gray areas on the inside of the biceps. He also is missing the star logos on top of the shoulders.

Note all the extra combat gear on the rear of his belt. Too bad its not painted differently so they stand out better.

There’s a gun but its molded into his thigh holster :’( At least it’s painted.

His shield is the same as Bucky Captain America’s with a nice metallic paint palette on the front of the shield.

The head sculpt has the same facial design as the Steve Rogers Super Soldier mold. Very cool because you can head swap between the two figures and have extra display options.

This is a great figure and a must own for Cap fans. He scales perfectly with previous Cap figures. He has all the articulation for great posing with relatively tight joints. You can even remove the combat vest for a more classic look :)

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Hasbro Marvel Legends Steve Rogers

27 11 2012

Another tough figure to find in the Marvel Legends is Steve Rogers. The former Captain America (at the time) donned a new uniform and became more of a secret agent than a star spangled Avenger.

Awesome packaging by Hasbro with art by Ed McGuinness.

The figure is awesome. Cool looking costume, nice colors, and great looking head sculpt.

He includes his shield and 2 handguns.

Shield can peg into his back.

If you’re a Cap fan this is one for you.
