Merry Christmas – 2014 Haul

26 12 2014

First off, hope everyone had a great Christmas day. Family, friends, food, gifts, and non-stop NBA basketball games on TV made this day a long one to get through. But I survived and hopefully you did too.

This year’s gift haul was certainly epic.

1st up, Bandai’s Real Grade Justice Gundam model kit. I technically got this yesterday morning at my office Christmas party and once I got home, I went right to work on it. As you can see I repainted it blue, panel lined it, and applied a few decals. Fun build. 12+ hrs of work.

Next, another Real Grade kit, the Destiny Gundam. I’m fortunate I have the whole last week of 2014 off to take my time on building this one.

Got a very cool Batman Arkham Asylum action figure set by DC collectibles. The Batman figure I got in single form when it was first released but the one in this set has a much darker paint scheme which I really think looks better. The villains in this set look really wicked.

The female Assassin Creed Aveline De Grandpre figure by McFarlane Toys. Never had a chance to play her in the games, wonder if she’s any good. Also, season 1 DVD set of the Musketeers.

Got Generations Deluxe Chormia and Arcee as well as the new Animated R.I.D. Warrior Class Strongarm. 2014 was the year of the fembots.

and lastly, gift to myself thanks to a sweet Holiday bonus, got the full set of Revoltech TMNT action figures. May do a video review on these after I try test them out bit more to see what the pros and cons are.

That’s all for now… need a beer 🙂

Adventures in Toy Shopping: TF4 Day and Big Wow in San Jose

17 05 2014

Today marks the official retail release date of the Transformers Age of Extinction movie toys. Earlier in the week, I took advantage of Amazon’s buy 1 get 1 for 30% off when they sold their stock online last Monday. Apparently Monday was referred to Cybertron Monday – the official online release date for the movie figures. I was able to get the Scorn and Slug through that deal and today I hopped over to Toysrus and used my $5 off coupon and picked leader class Optimus Prime. I honestly like the design of these toys.

After learning Takara Tomy was doing a more movie accurate colored Optimus with more silver paint apps but selling for $80, I decided to take time to add some more silver paint to my US version Optimus myself. Using Tamiya Acrylic paint,  I painted parts of the arms, chest, head, and fully painted thighs and feet.

The annual Big Wow Comic Convention hit San Jose, CA this weekend. It’s more fan friendly convention for better interaction with comic creators. Relatively a small show but there was a descent seller presence. I was able to track down a very cool Evil Lyn from the 2000’s MOTU as well as TF Generations Scourage. Also snagged the DC Collectibles Designer Series Nightwing based off the art designs of Greg Capullo.

The real bargain I found was an Ultra-Act Ultraman Tiga Sky Mode figure for $20.

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Hasbro Transformers Generations: Deluxe Class: Orion Pax

7 08 2013

I can’t remember Hasbro ever releasing a Orion Pax version of Optimus Prime but this guy is definitely a welcome edition to my Transformers collection.

orion pax 01

Orion Pax is based off the IDW comics universe. The figure includes a reprint of Transformers Spotlight comic featuring Orion Pax

orion pax 02

He comes in his typical colors. His vehicle mode is sporty looking truck.

orion pax 03

In robot mode, he has very youthful design.

Hasbro Transformers Generation Orion Pax 00

His head sculpt features no mouth guard.

orion pax 05

He has very sizable energon axe that can be mounted on the side of his vehicle mode.

orion pax 06

In robot mode, the axe compliments Orion very well.

orion pax 07

His blaster has elements of his classic G1 gun but a little more compact.

orion pax 08

This figure is great all around. Good design in both modes, highly articulated, and clever in transformation (About $14.99, Target).

Thanks to good folks at reprolabels, I was able to customize my Transformers Generations Voyager Springer with their very cool decal sticker set. Very cool set for $11.

Adventures in Toy Shopping: Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer

1 12 2012

Springer is one of my favorite characters to come out of  the original Transformers Animated movie. He had bulky heavy hitter design, a triple-changer, and carried a huge sword.  I’ve been waiting years for Hasbro to release a modern version of this classic hero. Unfortunately, we get this deluxe class repaint and remold of the Hunt for the Decepticons Tomahawk.

Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer 01

Helicopter mode is cool. It’s a shame that character such as Springer would get a small deluxe class figure. He should have been Voyager class size.

Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer 02

In robot mode, the design is very nice. As I mentioned before, Springer had a bulky warrior design when he 1st debuted, this version he sports a very lean body which is just odd.

Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer 03

He comes with sword but its really tiny. It should be long like the long sword that came with Drift.

Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer 04

I do enjoy the right arm blade that can open like a scissor.

Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer 05

Note the length of the missile projectiles that plug into his launchers. In tail area of them, they seem like a waste of plastic and really don’t help the look of the figure.

Transformers Generations Deluxe Class Springer 06

He scales equally with other Deluxe Class figures. Wouldn’t he look better with if he had just a little bigger head sculpt and it was plugged onto Drift’s body mold?

Overall, this figure really doesn’t capture the classic feel of Springer. I was really excited at 1st to pick this up but I feel like this is waste of money. I highly doubt we’ll see an original modern mold of Springer by Hasbro anytime soon. G1 fans stay away.
